We left the next morning and headed back to Cairns, after a few class requirements. This requirement was looking at the history museum, which was small and had smelly bathrooms with wasp nests. We then looked at an area of development for a community recreation center and talked about planning for this community back at the Uni. This picture was taken by Sharon.
After
that,
we headed to Cairns (Thank God). I just don't think I can do the
country,
at least not for too long. I NEED a good shower and place to sleep and
pee.
I'll go see it all day, but I won't sleep in it. We stopped at a Pub,
The
Lions' Den on our way back, which was pretty nice compared to what we
had been
seeing. I just liked it for the bathrooms at that point. Then we began
our 4-5
hour trek back to Cairns. On the way back, we encountered a car wash on
the road. They wash cars (or in our case, bus) to prevent
cross-pollenation between areas. Australia cares so much more about the
environment than America does. It's kind of depressing coming back here
to murky river water among other differences.
We couldn't drive back the entire way
along the coastal road, but Matt and Sharon did what they could. I
couldn't get GREAT pictures out of the bus, but we did stop at a lookout
for a class photo. Here's a few pictures!
After arriving back to the Cairns Student
Lodge, we took much needed showers. Best shower ever. Rachel, Amanda and
I decided we would go to the esplanade to eat dinner and hang out. We
met up with Carly and Lisa. Carly is Australian and Lisa is from
Rochford, England. These girls were cool, and I wish I could've known
them better! Carly was actually the first student I got acquainted with
in our class. Amanda told me that she married an aboriginal man, which
was pretty cool, considering it's not entirely common. But, they don't
seem as racist as Americans do. Lisa basically is coming back to school.
She's studying at James Cook Uni, and basically decided to do this on a
whim. Pretty cool! Here is a picture of some Chinese cuisine from the
food court near the night markets. Seems like the same as back home,
portion-wise. We then had Gelato, AGAIN! Tiramisu flavored this time,
Rachel talked me into it.
Here are a few other pictures from the field trip from Sharon's Camera. My last few days in AU will be covered in the next blog. Until then, Cheers!
